From: dannys@iis.ee.ethz.ch (Danny Schwendener) Subject: Welcome to the rec.scouting FAQ repository. Date: July 31, 1995 Welcome to ftp.ethz.ch. This is the official base site for the rec.scouting FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) file series. Use this site to get the most recent version of these files. About this archive ------------------ Aside of the FAQ files, this archive contains several hundred other scouting-related files. Here's a description of the subdirectories: incoming If you have an interesting contribution to this archive, upload it to this directory and drop me a mail at dannys@iis.ee.ethz.ch describing its contents (if it isn't a text file). admin This directory contains hints and information related to the administration of a pack or a troop: budget planning, forms, certification programs,... alpha This directory contains prereleases of upcoming Frequently Asked Questions Files for the rec.scouting FAQ series and miscellaneous material that will be included in future releases of the current FAQ series. You may copy and print these files for your own use, but please don't forward them to other people and don't make them available on other sites, BBSes or networks. These are raw prereleases with no version information and we try to avoid any version confusion. art The rec.scouting archives at ftp.ethz.ch are not the place to send scouting-related clip-art files (our site policy does not allow clip-art archives on this machine). There are other sites (such as pluto.utdallas.edu) that explicitly welcome scouting-related clip-art. Sometimes people upload clip-art files despite of my warnings and it breaks my heart to delete these files without any comment ;-). So they end up here, but they may disappear for good without any warning any day. bsa This directory holds information relating to the Boy Scouts of America. Use binary FTP transfer mode where indicated -------------------------------------------- Some of the files on this archive are in one or the other binary/compressed format. Those who are have a special ending, as described below. Please remember to set your FTP transfer type to binary before downloading compressed files. Otherwise, you won't be able to uncompress them on your local machine. *Please* ask your local computing facility staff or post a message on Usenet instead of writing me, if you need to know how to convert one of these files to your specific system. The word on the right side of the period in the file name gives a good hint on the file format used. There are many other themes to make a FAQ file on, so if you have a little spare time and wish to set up a new FAQ file, contact me at dannys@iis.ee.ethz.ch and read the file /rec.scouting/maintainers/00_README-maint for instructions. All my thanks to the maintainers of the current FAQ files, who have invested so much of their time and are providing a tremendous service to the rec.scouting community. -- Danny Schwendener v/o "Spike" dannys@iis.ee.ethz.ch Wolfsmeute Orion/Glockenhof, Sihlstr. 33, CH-8001 Zurich, Switzerland rec.scouting FAQ coordinator and ftp.ethz.ch scout archive maintainer
