The Jamboree management decided on the use of Internet and related services. Summarized in my own words it reads as follows: There will be three areas with an internet connection. - the press centre, where recognized journalists may use these services and will pay for the used time; - the global development village where the world scout environment network will use it in a dedicated activity; - the computer activity centre of the amateur radio programme area where scouts can "travel" over the internet and explore its possibilities. There will be NO email services to and from the Jamboree. Electronic greetings messages can be send, however, via the amateur radio packet network. The Jamboree can be reached via PA6WSJ @ PI8WFL. News bulletins will be send from this stations also to bbs's in the category SCOUTS @ WW. Incoming messages will be forwarded to subcamps. During daytime the packet-radio system will also operate in IRC mode. To access this you will need to go via an amateur radio gateway to internet. Of course, you may enter in a live discussion with the scouts at the station using a voice amateur radio contact. It is NOT possible to directly connect to the Jamboree's computers via telnet or the like. Whether IRC services will be available to us is unclear at this time. We'll keep you posted abt developments. More detailed information will be published soon in the next Jamboree circulars.
