So, here are the first steps you should follow: 1. decide what you want to put into your FAQ. Define for yourself what subjects you will include and which ones do not fit into your concept. These guidelines will help you later when you receive submissions from the contributors (assuming that you don't want to write up the whole faq by yourself). Also to prevent any confusion (and resentment from other faq editors), define your faq's 'charter' in a way that it won't overlap with already existing faqs. Since the charter is not official or public (it's only for yourself), expect it not to be very rigit and to evolve as you will receive new contributions. 2. Send out a message on rec.scouting, scout-l and any other forum that could host your target audience. Tell that you're collecting contributions for a FAQ and use your charter to describe what you want in it. 3. Sit and wait. Don't despair. Re-post queries again and again. It took me a couple of months to set up my faqs, and I could already take advantage of a collection of articles from listserv. 4. Collect the incoming messages. Trim the text if necessary, but be careful not to change the text completely if you don't want to be roasted by the author. 5. Write an introductory text. Cut and paste from the existing faq's introductory texts. 6. Concatenate the articles and add the header as described in the other mail I'm sending you. 7. Send me the file, including the file header. I will correct the headers if necessary and let you know if I see any errors that could prevent a faq from being processed by the Usenet reader programs. 8. With your final green light, I will submit the file to the news.answers moderator, wait for his approval and add the faq into my queue so that it will be posted every month on rec.scouting, news.answers and any other newsgroup you wish. 9. As new articles keep coming in, collect them and add them to your file. Once you think that the new version should be published, send it to me so that I can replace the old one. If you have any questions, just let me know. -- Danny Schwendener macman@bernina.ethz.ch Wolfsmeute Orion/Glockenhof, Sihlstr. 33, CH-8001 Zurich, Switzerland
