From: kc8192@albnyvms.bitnet Subject: Software Date: Tue, 15 Jun 93 16:31:28 GMT Scoutmate, Cubmate and G-Scoutmate are three software packages that I have created that have made keeping track of your troop or pack/den easier than ever. Scoutmate is for Boy Scouts, Cubmate for Cub Scouts and G-Scoutmate is for Girl Scouts. Several people have compared scoutmate and cubmate to all other packages on the market and have said that these Scoutmate and Cubmate are more user friendly and have more features. I myself have seen the other packages and personally believe that you can't get anything better. Not only that, but Scoutmate, Cubmate and G-Scoutmate are less expensive than most other packages (half the cost of Troopmaster and Packmaster). If you would like to try them out for yourself, send me a reply with your disk size and the program you'd like and I'll send it out to you. A few features: scout and adult information, mail merge, troop and (merit badge) book inventory, several reports, custom report maker, permission slips, merit badge counselor module (scoutmate), financial module, and just so much more.... I can send either an informational sheet or diskette (let me know which one) or call 718-919-2082 for more info. Thanks. For those of you who do not have access to FTP (like me), then you may be happy to hear that you may order the evaluation copies of the "Mate" series from my MBAS. Mr. Coleman will send out floppies, but this saves you and him some time and him the expense. If anyone knows where these 3 programs are available via FTP, I'd like to know. I did not find them on the SIMTEL20 listing. Here's a brief introduction to Scoutmate. Cubmate and G(irl)-Scoutmate are similar: --------------------------------------------------- Scoutmate is what you've been waiting for in comprehensiveness, user friendliness and complete user upgradability. It is also the least expensive of the major scouting software packages. Look at all Scoutmate offers: * 8 pages of information on each scout (including personal and parent info, merit badges, other awards, positions held (incl. history), ranks (and requirements completed), up to 52 weeks of dues paid (attendance), medical info, camping, etc.) * Adult leader tracking which tracks personal and business information, awards, positions, training and group/committees. * Global Update allows you to "batch" update the database (merit badges and dues). * Merit badge Counselor Module which tracks information on merit badge counselors including merit badges they counsel, days and times available. You can also query the database for counselors available for certain badges between certain times. * Troop Inventory and Merit Badge Book Library modules which track the inventory of the troop, if it's lent out and to whom, etc. * Financial Module tracks up to 5 accounts that the troop may have. * Several reports are available including Advancement Progress Reports, Roster, Phone List, and more. Scoutmate also allows you to "PAINT" reports which means that you can CUSTOMIZE your own reports. So now the combinations are limitless. Samples are included (including a General Worksheet Form). Individual Progress reports (suitable for sending to district offices) are available also. * Permission Slips can also be printed. * Mail Merge allows you to type the letter once and send it to all or select adults and/or scouts. * You can form projects/groups/committees in Scoutmate. You can then assign adults and scouts to these groups, and then send mail merges (or reports, etc.) only to people assigned to these groups. * You have complete control over defaults. You can easily modify patrol names, group/committee names/codes, colors, troop and adult positions, return addresses and default City/State/Zip Code/Area Codes. * You can add or delist merit badges effortlessly. Do other programs allow this? Merit badges are in official BSA order, but can be printed out within Scoutmate in either official BSA number OR alphabetical order. * Ability to query the database for things such as scout's that have (or don't have) merit badges, rank, in certain patrols, in certain group/committees, paid dues on a certain date. * Ability to mark badges as unawarded with the touch of a button (make grocery lists). * Scoutmaster notepad and deluxe calendar with alarm --------------------------------------------------- To receive a zipped copy of any of the above (uu or xx encoded), do the following: Send a letter to server@slic.cts.com In the body, on a new line type the following: /get /archive/cubmate [uue|xxe] or (for Cubmate) /get /archive/smate [uue|xxe] or (for Scoutmate) /get /archive/gsmate [uue|xxe] or (for G-Scoutmate) /get /pub/scouting/mate.inf or (latest info on series) help or (help on the server) info (info about the site/server) The uue|xxe is optional, uuencoding is the default for binaries. I have not mentioned the version numbers as I will always keep the most current versions under the same names, so that only the latest versions are sent. The "mate.inf" file will always tell you what is available here. This site also supports anonymous uucp connections.
